Ex Nihilo, (from nothing) is the title of our upcoming project within the research of western esotericism.
Why Ex Nihilo?
"From nothing", as an expression, holds certain mystical values on its own. It leaves the audience ambiguous in the interpretation. Could it be understood as Creatio ex Nihilo (creation from nothing), the theistic answer to the question on how the universe was created? Or is it its direct counterpart, Ex Nihilo Nihil Fit (nothing comes from nothing), as all things are formed from pre-existent things, an idea formulated by the Greek philosopher Parmenides, and later adapted by Titus Lucretius Carus? We like to keep this ambiguity present. Ex Nihilo is about ideas that come from different places, sometimes seemingly from nothing, forming arguments and leading into complex discussions.
What is Ex Nihilo?
In our design, Ex Nihilo is mixture of an online discussion platform, webinar, podcast, or lectures. Still covering academic, intellectual topics, but not necessarily bound by the formality. This causal, non-formal element of presentation is crucial in achieving the atmosphere of "academic small-talk on ongoing research topics" that we would like to present.
How is it going to work?
Every two weeks we will be organizing an event (also check our Facebook group and page) on certain topics, usually connected with a progressing research where moderators, invited guests, as well as participating audience will be able to engage in the discussion. You do not need to be an expert in the discussed topic, as many great ideas come from unexpected inspiration. Just be respectful towards the opinions of others.
How can I participate?
For passive, or semi-active participation you do not need to do much, just visit our event page, log in and listen/discuss to your hearts extent. If you would like to suggest a topic of your research on which you would like to lead a discussion, and hear opinions of other researchers, please write us an e-mail.
We are looking forward to seeing you online.
